Grow into Your Garden
“If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need,”
– Marcus Tullius Cicero
There are so many compelling reasons to start gardening—from a desire to be more self-sufficient to a love of strawberries that don’t cost $6 a package. I have a laundry list of reasons why we began our garden, but the primary motivation stems from our love of food. We cook at home quite often, and there’s nothing like fresh produce straight from the ground. Not only does it taste better (once you’ve rinsed the dirt off, of course), but there’s a particular joy in having been part of the entire process—from planting the seed to putting the plate on the table. There’s comfort in knowing the full lifecycle of the food you eat.
We believe that food is the best medicine, and the way we eat can shape the way we live. That starts with what we grow.
On this page, we’ll share our gardening journey. We’ve made a lot of mistakes as beginner gardeners and discovered some pretty cool tricks along the way. We promise to be painfully honest about what’s worked, what hasn’t, and everything in between—so hopefully you can skip a few of those early growing pains.
You can expect everything from DIY project successes (and failures), to tips on planting in Northeast Ohio’s unpredictable climate. We’ll also share recipes using fresh ingredients from our garden and offer advice on how to manage harvest season when you have a job—or really, any other responsibilities.
We want to welcome you into our garden. This is one of our favorite places to be. We are constantly trying something new, and even though somebody always seems to forget to put the plant labels with the plants–it’s our beautiful organized chaos.
Stay tuned, and don’t be afraid to drop a comment if you have specific questions or topics you’d like us to cover!
